The 796866-3 is a Buchanan series shrouded header from TE Connectivity AMP Connectors — a 3-position, single-level, right-angle through-hole header on 5.08 mm pitch. It mates with the corresponding 5.08 mm pitch plug (screw-clamp or spring-cage) to form a wire-to-board terminal block connection. The shrouded shroud (4 side) protects the male pins from accidental shorting and guides the plug into alignment during mating.
Board-fit and orientation details
The contact tail length is 0.138" (3.50 mm), which fits standard 1.6 mm PCBs with enough protrusion for a reliable solder fillet. The mating flange on the header body accepts a screw or clip from the plug side — this locks the pair together against vibration and cable pull.
Temperature range and material limits
The PA66 housing maintains its mechanical strength across that band; the tin contact finish does not suffer from tin whisker growth at the low end, and the UL94 V-0 rating ensures the housing self-extinguishes if a fault raises the internal temperature.
