8-Position PCB Terminal Block for Power Distribution
The TE Connectivity Buchanan 796949-8 is an 8-position, single-level PCB terminal block designed for fixed power distribution on a printed circuit board. It uses a side-entry, screw-rising cage clamp termination — the screw tightens a clamp that pulls the wire against a current bar, giving a gas-tight connection across 12-30 AWG wire. Rated 17.5 A per position, this block handles motor drives, power supplies, and industrial control I/O where each circuit carries a few amps of continuous load.
Installation Specs: Torque and Wire Prep
The M3 screw is tightened to 0.79 Nm (7.0 Lb-In) — that torque is enough to deform the conductor slightly for a gas-tight joint without stripping the brass-nickel screw head. The rising cage clamp accepts solid or stranded wire; for stranded wire, a ferrule is recommended below 18 AWG to prevent strand fan-out. The clamp material is brass with nickel plating, and the contact surface is brass with tin plating — tin is adequate for the moderate mating cycle count of a fixed terminal block.
