9-Position Side-Entry Terminal Block for PCB Power Distribution
The 0.200" (5.08mm) pitch provides generous creepage distance for the 300 V rating and simplifies PCB trace routing between positions. Rated at 17.5 A per circuit, this block handles moderate power distribution on a single board — think industrial control I/O, power supply outputs, or HVAC controller field wiring.
Screw Rising Cage Clamp and Torque Specification
Wire termination uses a screw-driven rising cage clamp, which lifts a nickel-plated brass clamp plate against the conductor as the M3 screw is tightened. The specified torque of 0.79 Nm (7.0 Lb-In) is the installation target — under-torquing risks high contact resistance and thermal runaway; over-torquing can strip the M3 thread in the PA66 housing. The clamp accepts wire from 12 AWG down to 30 AWG, covering solid and stranded conductors for both power feeds and smaller signal wires.
Interlocking Side Feature for Ganged Assemblies
The housing includes an interlocking (side) feature, allowing multiple 796949-9 blocks to be mechanically joined side-by-side into a longer terminal strip without additional brackets or end covers. This is useful when a design needs more than 9 positions but the PCB layout benefits from modular assembly — the interlock keeps the blocks aligned during soldering and field wiring.
