Housing for a 20-Position FFC Line — What Bolts In
The 88859-8 is a 20-position, single-row FFC receptacle housing from TE Connectivity AMP. It accepts 0.05-0.13mm thick flat flex cable and mates with a matching header at 2.54mm pitch — the same spacing as a standard 0.100-inch breadboard grid, so the board footprint is predictable. You need to order the correct crimp terminal separately; the housing body has the detent lock that holds the FFC in place once the contacts are inserted. The wide low end means this housing can sit in a cold-storage or outdoor cabinet without the PBT housing becoming brittle.
Pitch, Positions, and the Detent Lock
The 20 positions fill a single row, so the mated connector occupies about 2 inches of board edge — useful for a parallel ribbon cable to a flat flex interconnect. The detent lock gives a positive click when the FFC is fully seated. No secondary latch or TPA is present, so the retention relies on the detent beam engaging the FFC's locking tab — confirm your cable has the matching cutout. FFC thickness range is 0.05-0.13mm. A 0.12mm standard FFC fits; a 0.3mm reinforced cable will not seat and may damage the housing latch.
