Coding and Mating — Why A-Coding Matters
A-coding is the standard for sensor and actuator networks per IEC 61076-2-101. An A-coded receptacle will not accept a B-coded or D-coded plug — the keying pin position is non-negotiable. If your harness uses B-coded (typically for Fieldbus/DeviceNet) or D-coded (Ethernet) connectors, this part will not mate. Confirm the coding of your mating cordset before specifying. The 3-position count is the most common for M12 sensor/actuator loops — power, ground, and one signal or a switched output. For applications requiring more conductors (e.g., 4- or 5-position for analog sensors or dual-channel safety), a different shell size or pin count is needed.
