What This Backshell Does in the Harness
The TE Connectivity 2428-008-2405 is a black plastic backshell from the HDP20 series, shell size 24, designed for 180° cable exit. Its primary job is strain relief — it clamps the cable jacket so that tugging on the harness doesn't pull the contacts out of the connector body. The cable opening measures 0.625" (15.88 mm), which handles the typical bundle of wires you'd see in a size-24 circular connector. This is an unshielded backshell — no metal braid termination, no EMI gasket. It's a straight mechanical part: keeps the cable from flexing at the connector exit and gives the assembly a finished look. The plastic body keeps weight down, which matters when the connector is hanging off a harness in a panel or engine bay.
