What This Retainer Does in the GT5 System
The Hirose GT5-2P/S-R is a 2-position retainer from the GT5 series, designed to lock crimped terminals into place inside GT5 housings. Molded in gray Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), it provides the secondary retention that keeps individual contacts seated against vibration and wire pull — without it, a terminal can back out of the housing cavity during harness assembly or field service. The retainer snaps into the housing after the terminals are loaded, and its presence is visually confirmed by the flush fit against the housing face.
Compatibility — Which Housings It Fits
This retainer is specified for use with GT5 housings. It is not a standalone connector — it is the secondary lock that completes the wire-to-wire or wire-to-board interconnect. The 2-position variant matches the 2-circuit GT5 housing cavity layout; the retainer keys into the housing's internal slots and cannot be installed backwards. For a 1-circuit build, the GT5-1P/S-R(35) retainer serves the same function with a single cavity.
Material and Build for the Application
The PBT body material offers a balance of stiffness and chemical resistance suited for automotive and industrial harness environments where exposure to oils, fuels, or mild solvents is expected. The gray color distinguishes it from other retainers in the GT5 family — a field-service technician can visually confirm the correct retainer is installed without pulling the housing apart.
