What This Adapter Does in the RF Line
The Amphenol 182107S is a UHF reducing adapter — a barrel-style coupler that steps down between two UHF interface sizes so you can mate a smaller-diameter UHF plug into a larger UHF jack, or adapt between cable diameters without changing the connector on the cable end. It is a passive interconnect component, not a connector itself: it has no contacts or dielectric, just a conductive shell that passes the RF signal through the centre pin bore while maintaining the ground shield continuity. The nickel-plated zinc body gives it the corrosion resistance and RF shielding you expect from a UHF-series accessory, and the silver colour is the bare metal finish after plating — no paint to chip or flake in the field.
This adapter is designed for use with UHF plugs (PL-259 style) — the standard threaded RF connector for HF and low-VHF applications up to about 300 MHz. It is not a BNC or N-type adapter; UHF uses a different thread pitch and coupling nut, so the 182107S will not mate with those interfaces. If you are adapting between UHF and BNC, you need a hybrid adapter, not a reducing adapter. The 182107S is a straight reduction within the same connector family — it changes the shell diameter, not the interface standard.
