What This BNC Adapter Does
The 31-218-RFX is a straight BNC to BNC adapter, male pin on both ends, designed to join two BNC cables or a cable to a bulkhead connector in a 50 Ohm system. It's a pass-through barrel — no impedance transformation, no signal conditioning — just a solid, repeatable RF interconnect for test benches, instrumentation racks, and lab setups where you need to extend a coax run or adapt between male connectors. The nickel-plated brass body and gold-plated centre contacts handle the signal path, with a polyoxymethylene (POM) acetal dielectric keeping the 50 Ohm impedance consistent through the joint.
The 4 GHz frequency ceiling means this adapter stays usable well into the UHF and low microwave bands, covering Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz), cellular (up to 2.7 GHz), and most spectrum analyser inputs. If you're working with 75 Ohm video or CATV gear, the sibling 031-218-75RFX (same mechanicals, 75 Ohm impedance) is the one to grab — the centre pin diameter differs, so mixing impedances will cause a reflection at the junction.
After that, the centre pin may start to show wear, but for most lab and field applications, that's years of service.
