Mating finish and cycle life
This matters for board-to-board connections that may be unmated during test, rework, or field service: expect several hundred cycles before contact resistance drifts. The through-hole termination provides a stronger mechanical anchor than SMT on a 2.00mm pitch board — the 0.118" post length gives enough protrusion for a reliable fillet on a 1.6mm PCB.
