The male square pins are gold-plated at 30.0 µin (0.76 µm) on the mating surface — a heavy enough layer to handle repeated mating cycles in a production or test fixture without fretting corrosion.
The 5 A per-contact rating is typical for a 0.100" pitch pin; the real limit is the temperature rise in the housing, not the contact itself. The unshrouded design means there's no plastic wall to prevent a mis-mated plug — the mating half must provide keying or the harness builder relies on visual alignment. With a 0.318" (8.08 mm) mating pin length, it engages standard IDC sockets and crimp receptacles designed for this pitch.
