Board-to-Board Header for Legacy Grid Routing
The 68492-172 is a 72-position, dual-row, unshrouded male pin header from the BERGSTIK® II series. It sits on the standard 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch — the same grid that has driven board-to-board and wire-to-board interconnects for decades. Rated 5 A per contact with a 110 V voltage rating, it carries signal and light power across a board edge or between parallel PCBs. The right-angle through-hole termination routes the pins parallel to the board surface, which suits mezzanine stacking or cable-header applications where the mating half approaches from the side.
What the Key Ratings Mean for Fit
The 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch and 0.100" row spacing match the legacy perf-board and standard PCB footprint — no fine-pitch routing required. 72 positions loaded all the way means the BOM circuit count must match exactly; there are no optional empty positions. The 30.0 µin gold mating finish supports hundreds of insertion cycles without contact fretting, which matters if this header sees field-service reconnections or multiple test-stand mates. The 5 A per-contact rating is typical for signal-level current; if the design pulls more than 5 A on any pin, the contact or the whole header needs a higher-rated sibling.
Mating and Termination
This is an unshrouded header — the male pins are exposed, so it mates with any standard 0.100" pitch dual-row receptacle housing that accepts 0.025" square pins. The push-pull fastening means no locking latch; retention relies on the friction of the mating contacts. Termination is solder to through-hole, with a 0.150" (3.81mm) post length for the PCB hole. The insulation height of 0.190" (4.83mm) gives clearance under the header for trace routing.
