The 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch is the primary footprint constraint — it matches standard perfboard and legacy 0.100" grid layouts. The 9-position count must match your BOM line exactly; this is a single-row header with all positions loaded. Gold at this thickness handles hundreds of mating cycles without degradation, whereas tin-plated contacts at the same pitch would be limited to a few dozen cycles before fretting corrosion sets in.
