Unshrouded vs. Shrouded: What Changes
An unshrouded header (this part) exposes the full pin length above the housing. This reduces the mated stack height and allows direct probing, but offers no polarization or keying — a mis-mated receptacle can be inserted backwards. A shrouded header adds a plastic wall around the pins that guides the mating half and prevents reverse insertion. For board-to-board or cable applications where orientation is fixed by the harness, unshrouded is acceptable; for blind-mate or field-installed connections, a shrouded version is safer.
