The unshrouded design means the male pins are exposed, which keeps the profile low but offers no keying or mis-mate protection — the mating receptacle must be aligned by the board layout alone.
What the ratings mean for the fit
The 0.100" pitch is the legacy 2.54mm standard — it matches the vast installed base of perfboard, prototyping grids, and IDC ribbon-cable systems. The 34 positions are fully loaded (all positions populated), so the BOM line count is exact. Tin plating on both the mating surface and the solder post keeps cost low, but it limits the connector to a semi-permanent duty cycle: tin-on-tin contacts are rated for fewer mating cycles than gold, so this header is best specified for one-time assembly or infrequent field service, not repeated connect/disconnect. The 5A per contact rating is comfortable for signal lines and moderate power distribution — think a backplane carrying logic-level supplies or a parallel data bus — but derate above the ambient temperature per the product drawing.
Mounting and termination
Right-angle through-hole termination: the pins exit parallel to the board surface, which is the standard orientation for a mezzanine or edge-card connection where the mating cable runs flat against the board. The contact length on the mating side is 0.318" (8.08mm), and the post length is 0.230" (5.84mm) — enough for a standard 1.6mm PCB with a solder fillet. The housing is black UL94 V-0 rated, which satisfies the flame-rating requirement for equipment inside an enclosure.
