Board-to-Board Header for Through-Hole Layouts
Fit and Footprint Considerations
The 0.100" (2.54 mm) pitch is the de facto standard for 0.025" square-post headers, so the board footprint is straightforward: a 2 x 35 grid of 0.040" plated through-holes on 0.100" centers. The overall contact length of 0.990" (25.15 mm) includes a 0.770" (19.56 mm) mating section and a 0.120" (3.05 mm) solder tail — the tail length is short enough for single-sided boards but may not protrude enough for thick backplanes requiring a longer post for wave-solder fillet. For a mezzanine application, the mated height is determined by the receptacle's mating depth plus this header's 0.770" pin length — the gap is where the system lives or dies, so confirm the receptacle's contact wipe range before locking in the board spacing.
