The FCI / Amphenol 87901-424HLF is a 24-position, dual-row unshrouded pin header from the BERGSTIK® II series. It's a board-to-board interconnect — the male pins mate with a matching receptacle to bridge two PCBs or connect a wire harness. The 0.100" (2.54 mm) pitch is the standard breadboard spacing, so the footprint fits common perfboard and prototyping layouts. Tin-plated phosphor bronze contacts carry 5 A per circuit, and the through-hole solder tails give a solid mechanical anchor on the board.
What the ratings mean for the fit
The 0.100" pitch and dual-row layout are the first fit check — the board footprint must match the 24 through-holes at that spacing. The 5 A per contact rating is for signal-level current or low-power distribution; the limiting factor is the narrow pin cross-section and the tin plating, not the housing. Tin contacts at 100.0 µinch thickness are fine for a few dozen mating cycles in a one-time assembly or occasional rework, but not for frequent field reconnects where gold would be specified. The unshrouded design means there's no plastic wall around the pins — the mating receptacle provides the polarization and keying, so the header itself is just a row of square pins.
