The 0.100" pitch and 0.100" row spacing define the board footprint — each pin occupies a 2.54 mm grid hole pattern, and the 0.318" (8.08 mm) mating pin length provides sufficient reach for standard receptacles. The 0.318" post length gives clearance for through-hole soldering on boards up to about 1/16" thick.
