The 0.100" (2.54 mm) pitch and 0.100" row spacing give you a standard grid for prototyping or production, and the 0.327" (8.30 mm) mating pin length reaches deep into a receptacle.
Press-fit saves a wave-solder pass in backplane builds; solder gives you a conventional joint for rework. The square pins (Copper Alloy) are tin-plated on the post side, so the solder joint wets well.
Contact finish and mating cycles
If your application sees frequent board swaps or field-service reconnections, this plating grade is worth the premium over a tin-finish sibling. The tin post finish (39.4 µ in) is standard for solderability.

Black thermoplastic housing rated UL94 V-0 — it won't sustain flame inside an enclosure. The overall contact length is 0.608" (15.44 mm), and the insulation height sits at 0.100" (2.54 mm) above the board. No shrouding, no latch — it's a push-pull unshrouded header, so make sure the mating receptacle has its own retention if vibration is a concern.
