GXT Gold Mating Finish and Contact Construction
The 98401-802-42LF: The mating contact finish is Gold, GXT™ with a thickness of 15.0 µinch (0.38 µm) over a phosphor bronze base. GXT is a proprietary gold alloy that provides a durable, low-resistance interface for repeated mating — the 15 µinch layer is a standard signal-grade plating, adequate for moderate cycle counts in controlled environments. The post (solder tail) carries a tin-lead finish at 150.0 µinch (3.81 µm), compatible with standard SnPb reflow processes.
Surface Mount Termination and Board Layout
Termination is solder via surface mount (SMT), with the header standing off the board at an insulation height of 0.084" (2.14 mm). The unshrouded design exposes the square pins, so the board layout must account for the pin profile and keep-out zones for mating receptacles. A board guide feature is included to aid alignment during assembly, reducing the risk of pin damage during placement.
