SMP-to-SMP Straight Adapter for 40 GHz Signal Paths
The Amphenol RF SMP-FS2A-1950 is a straight SMP plug-to-plug adapter with female-to-female center contacts, designed for inline RF connections where a controlled 50 Ohm impedance path is required through the full SMP band up to 40 GHz. It converts between two SMP plugs — both ends carry the same SMP female socket interface — so it serves as a barrel coupler between two male SMP-terminated cables or between a male SMP connector on a board launch and a male SMP cable assembly. The beryllium copper body and center contacts with gold plating handle the 100 mating cycles typical for blind-mate SMP connections without degrading the RF performance. The straight body keeps the signal path axial, avoiding the phase shift and reflection that a right-angle bend introduces at millimeter-wave frequencies.
40 GHz Bandwidth and 50 Ohm Impedance
Rated to 40 GHz maximum frequency with a 50 Ohm impedance, this adapter covers the full operating range of the SMP interface — it does not roll off before the connector limits. The gold plating on both the body and center contacts prevents oxidation on the mating surfaces; after 100 mate-unmate cycles the contact resistance stays within spec for production test or field-swap applications.
Free-Hanging Inline Mount
Both ends use snap-on fastening, the standard SMP retention mechanism that gives a positive tactile click when fully seated. The straight body and snap-on coupling make this adapter a straightforward inline barrel for extending or rerouting an SMP signal path without adding a right-angle bend that would complicate cable routing or increase VSWR.
