Stack Height Options for the Board Spacing Budget
One of the useful features of this DF12 receptacle is the range of mated stacking heights it supports: 3.5mm, 4mm, and 5mm. That means a single board-mount footprint can serve multiple board-spacing requirements — you pick the matching plug height to set the final stack. For a 36-position, 0.50mm-pitch connector, the 2.70mm height above board leaves room for components on the underside of the top board, but the tight pitch still limits routing density on inner layers.
It forces trace widths and spacing below 0.25mm on inner layers if you fan out all 36 positions from two rows.
