The JST 12DB-6S(LF) is a 12-position, single-row IDC connector from the DB series, designed for terminating individual stranded wires directly onto insulation-displacement contacts. The 0.098" (2.50mm) cable pitch matches the board-side pitch exactly, so the ribbon cable or discrete wires align with the contact slots without skew. The white, closed-end housing stops the cable from pushing through during termination, which keeps the conductors seated squarely against the IDC slots. Rated for 24-28 AWG stranded wire, this connector is intended for low-profile, solderless wire-to-board interconnects where the harness is mass-terminated to a flat cable or discrete wires at a fixed 2.50mm spacing.
Press-Fit Through-Hole Mounting
This connector uses a through-hole, press-fit mounting style — the termination pins are pressed into plated through holes on the PCB without soldering. That makes it suitable for assemblies where rework or field replacement is expected, or where a solderless backplane connection is preferred. The press-fit interface relies on an interference fit between the pin and the hole wall, so the PCB hole diameter and plating thickness must match the connector's pin geometry — verify the recommended footprint in the product drawing before laying out the board.
The 12DB-6S(LF) terminates stranded wire from 24 AWG to 28 AWG via IDC (insulation displacement) — the contacts slice through the insulation and grip the conductor without stripping or crimping individual terminals. The closed-end housing acts as a positive stop for the cable, ensuring each conductor is positioned at the correct depth before the IDC cover is pressed down. Because IDC relies on the wire insulation being displaced rather than compressed, the wire gauge tolerance is tight: stranded 24-28 AWG is specified, and using solid wire or a gauge outside this range will either fail to cut through the insulation or damage the conductor.
