The JST 13DB-6S(LF) is a 13-position IDC connector from the DB series, designed for terminating individual stranded wires into a single inline connector body. The connector accepts 24-28 AWG stranded wire, which covers the most common signal and low-power wire gauges used in internal appliance, HVAC, and industrial control cabling. This speeds up harness assembly once the tooling is set, though it does require a dedicated press or hand tool to get consistent termination force across all 13 positions. The through hole, press-fit mounting style means the connector is pressed into plated holes on the PCB and held by interference fit, not soldered — a detail that matters if your assembly line is set up for wave solder or selective solder and needs to avoid a separate press step. The housing is white and features a closed end, which means the IDC slots are enclosed on the insertion side — this prevents the wire from pushing through the back of the connector and keeps the termination point protected from accidental shorting against the board or chassis. It ships in bulk, so plan for tube or tray feeding if you're running an automated placement line.
Wire Gauge and Termination Tooling
The wire gauge range is 24-28 AWG stranded. This is the single most important parameter for harness builders: if your wire is solid, or outside this range, the IDC slot won't cut insulation cleanly or grip the conductor properly. Stranded wire in this range is typical for internal signal wiring in appliances, vending machines, and point-of-sale equipment. The IDC termination requires a tool — JST offers a hand tool or a bench press with the appropriate die set — to drive the wire into the slot with controlled force. Without the tool, consistent termination across 13 contacts is unreliable.
The connector mounts through hole, press-fit. The board-side pitch is the same 0.098" (2.50mm) as the cable pitch, which simplifies PCB layout — the footprint is a straight row of 13 plated through holes at 2.50mm centers. The press-fit retention means the connector is held by the interference of the contact tails in the plated holes, not by solder fillets. This is a reliable connection for low-vibration environments, but if your application sees repeated thermal cycling or mechanical shock, verify that the hole size and plating thickness in your board match the JST recommended footprint to avoid the contacts backing out over time.
