Sizing the Wire to the Current — the 3A vs 8A Trap
The TE Connectivity 2834055-2 is a 3-circuit LIGHT-N-LOK receptacle for Cable/Wire to Cable/Wire interconnects. It carries a dual current rating — 3A or 8A per circuit — and the figure that applies depends entirely on the wire gauge you land on. At 22 AWG the contact is good for 3A; step up to 16 AWG and the same contact body carries 8A. The poke-in termination accepts the full 16-22 AWG range, so the current limit is set by the wire, not the connector. The latch holder gives a positive lock — the housing won't walk loose under vibration the way a friction-fit would.
Poke-in termination means stripped solid or stranded wire pushes directly into the contact beam — no crimp tool, no separate terminal. The trade-off is insertion force: the beam grip that holds the wire also resists entry, so the wire strip length and the insertion tool (if used) matter more on the line than a crimp station. Tin-plated copper alloy contacts; the tin finish is fine for the 10 mating cycles the connector is rated for — this is a permanent-install part, not a field-service disconnect.
Mating Half — What Locks Into This Receptacle
This is the receptacle side of the LIGHT-N-LOK system. It mates with the corresponding LIGHT-N-LOK plug housing (same series, same latch-holder fastening). The 3-position count is fixed; the mating plug must also be 3 circuits. No keying or polarization on the basic housing, so the harness assembly needs to manage orientation at the bundle level.
