The 284511-4 is a 4-position plug from the TE Buchanan series, built as the wire-side mating half for a 3.81mm pitch header. It terminates stranded or solid wire with a screw-driven rising cage clamp — no crimp tool needed, just a standard screwdriver. Rated 11 A at 300 V, it handles moderate power for control cabinet wiring, sensor/actuator connections, and panel I/O. The plug accepts 14-30 AWG wire (0.05-2 mm²) with a 5-6mm strip length. The rising cage clamp pulls the wire against a current bar — the screw torque spec is 0.31 Nm (2.7 Lb-In), which is light enough that you feel the wire bite without over-torquing the housing.
Strip the wire to 5-6mm, insert it into the clamp opening, and tighten the M2 screw to 0.31 Nm. The rising cage lifts and pinches the conductor against the contact. The plug entry is 180° straight, so the wire exits in line with the plug body. The mating flange (feature) locks the plug to the header, preventing vibration from backing the connection loose.
