MTA-156 IDC Receptacle, 6-Position, 18 AWG
The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch is wider than typical 0.100" IDC connectors, giving more board-space margin for the mating header footprint and easier hand-routing of traces between pads. The orange housing is a visual key for the 18 AWG variant, helping avoid wire-gauge mix-ups on the harness floor.
Termination and Wire Handling
The IDC termination accepts both discrete wires and ribbon cable, so one housing covers point-to-point harnesses and ribbon-bus assemblies. The feed-through feature means the IDC slot passes through the housing — you can daisy-chain the signal through the connector without cutting the ribbon, which is useful for bus-style wiring where multiple taps share a common conductor. The free-hanging (in-line) mount lets the receptacle float in the harness; it mates with a board-mounted header, so the cable side has no rigid attachment point.
Contact Finish and Duty
That is a heavy tin deposit for an IDC contact — the thickness matters because the insulation displacement process cold-flows the wire into the slot, and thin tin can crack under the strain. 80.0µin gives the ductility to survive the IDC wipe without exposing the base metal. Tin is the right choice for a low-cycle, high-volume production harness where the connector mates a few times and stays mated; gold would be overkill for this duty.
