The JST SMR-02V-B is a 2-position receptacle housing from the SM series, designed for wire-to-board crimp termination. It uses a 2.50mm pitch and a single-row layout, making it a compact interconnect for low-current signal or power circuits in consumer electronics, automotive interiors, and industrial control panels.
Sourcing Reality: Contacts Not Included
The SMR-02V-B ships as a bare housing — the crimp terminals are ordered separately. This is the single most common sourcing mistake on this part: the BOM line for the housing alone does not complete the interconnect. You will need the matching male pin contacts from the SM series and the correct crimp tool to terminate your wire. The housing accepts male pins terminated to wire, then mates with the corresponding SM series header soldered to the PCB.
Latch Lock Retention and Harness Assembly
A latch lock on the top of the housing provides positive retention when mated with the SM header. The latch engages audibly and holds the pair together under vibration — useful for harnesses routed through moving equipment or vehicle interiors. The free-hanging (in-line) mount means this housing sits in the middle of a wire harness, not on a panel or board, so the latch is the primary mechanical lock. No secondary locking mechanism is present; the latch alone carries the retention load.
