What This Housing Does in the Harness
The JST VHR-5M is a 5-position, single-row receptacle housing from the VH series. It is the wire-side half of a wire-to-board or wire-to-wire interconnect — it houses the female crimp terminals and mates with the corresponding VH series pin header. The 0.156" (3.96mm) pitch gives it the spacing for moderate current per circuit, common in power distribution and appliance wiring. The natural PA6 nylon body and latch lock fastening suit it for internal harness assemblies where the connector sees vibration but not direct weather exposure.
The Contacts Are Not Included — Order Separately
The VHR-5M ships as an empty housing. The female socket crimp terminals must be ordered separately — the VH series uses a standard crimp contact that accepts the wire gauge range specified in the terminal datasheet. Plan the terminal part number and the crimp tooling alongside the housing to avoid a partial BOM.
Where It Fits: Free-Hanging In-Line with Latch Lock
Free hanging (in-line) mounting means the housing is not panel-mounted or board-mounted — it terminates a wire harness and mates to a header soldered to the PCB. The latch lock provides audible and tactile feedback when fully mated, and resists un-mating from vibration or cable tug.
