What the 500 Mating Cycles and Gold Plating Mean for Field Use
The 500-cycle rating on the 901-9889-RFX is the practical reconnect limit before the gold plating on the beryllium copper center contact begins to wear through. Gold-on-beryllium copper is a standard high-cycle combination — the beryllium copper provides spring retention, and the gold prevents oxidation at the mating interface. For a panel-mounted receptacle that may be disconnected during equipment servicing, 500 cycles is generous; for a test-port connector that sees daily connect-disconnect, it is adequate for several years of routine use. The nickel-plated brass body is corrosion-resistant but not intended for submersion — the threaded fastening and bulkhead nut provide a mechanical seal against dust and splash, not a waterproof IP rating.
Mounting Hardware and Installation
The lockwasher sits between the panel and the nut to prevent loosening under vibration. The mounting feature is bulkhead rear-side nut, meaning the connector body is inserted from the outside of the panel and the nut is tightened from the inside. The center contact uses a solder cup termination, which accepts a tinned wire end or a pre-tinned center conductor. No crimp tool is required.
