30-Position FPC Connector with ZIF Slide Lock
The SFV30R-3STBE1HLF is a 30-position, 0.020" (0.50mm) pitch FPC connector from Amphenol ICC (FCI)'s SFV-R series. It uses a zero-insertion-force (ZIF) slide-lock actuator — the flex tail slides in freely, then the lock clamps the contacts without bending the pads. Rated 0.5A per contact at 50V, with gold-plated phosphor bronze contacts on the bottom side of the connector. The housing is black liquid crystal polymer (LCP), glass-filled and halogen-free, rated UL94 V-0. The actuator is black polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), also glass-filled and halogen-free.
At 0.50mm pitch, the 30-position footprint requires careful trace routing — each pad is narrow, and the breakout between pads leaves little room for via-in-pad without tenting. The bottom-contact configuration means the FPC's conductive pads face downward toward the PCB; the footprint must mirror this orientation. The 0.071" (1.80mm) height above board is low-profile enough for slim handheld devices and panel-mount displays. The slide-lock actuator adds no extra height — it sits flush with the body. Accepts FPC thickness of 0.30mm or 0.33mm; verify your flex tail stack-up against these values before committing the footprint.
The rated 20 mating cycles is low — this connector is designed for infrequent reconnection, such as during initial assembly or field replacement of a display module, not for daily hot-swap. In a product that sees one mating event at manufacture and one during service, the 20-cycle rating provides a comfortable margin without over-specifying. At this current level, temperature rise is negligible even in a fully populated 30-circuit assembly.
Choosing Between SFV30R Siblings
The SFV30R-3STBE1HLF (bottom-contact, gold) sits alongside three direct siblings in the same 30-position, 0.50mm-pitch, right-angle ZIF family. The SFV30R-2STBE1HLF is identical except for top-contact orientation — the FPC pads face upward. The SFV30R-1STE1HLF is bottom-contact with tin plating instead of gold — lower cost, but rated for fewer mating cycles and less corrosion resistance. Choose the plating and contact side that matches your flex tail design and environmental exposure.
