Panel Lock vs. Free-Hanging — Which Mounting Fits Your Harness
The PNIRR-04V includes a panel lock feature, meaning it snaps into a panel cutout and stays put when you mate or unmate the header. That is the difference from the PNIRR-04VF, which is the same 4-position housing but free-hanging — no panel lock, no panel cutout needed. If your harness routes to a fixed bulkhead or enclosure wall, the panel-lock version saves you a secondary fastener. If the connector floats on a wire bundle, the free-hanging variant is the lighter choice.
The PNI series offers 3-position (PNIRR-03V), 4-position (PNIRR-04V), and 5-position (PNIRR-05V) versions of this same panel-mount receptacle housing. All share the 2.00 mm pitch, single-row layout, latch lock, and natural PA66 body. No other spec changes between them.
This housing ships without crimp contacts. The housing accepts the terminals after crimping onto the wire, then they lock into the cavity. No contact, no circuit — so add the terminals to the BOM line alongside this housing.
Mating Header and Panel Cutout
The PNIRR-04V mates with a 4-position, 2.00 mm pitch pin header — the male half of the PNI series. For the panel mount, the housing snaps into a rectangular cutout; the panel lock barbs hold it in place against the insertion force of the header. The exact cutout dimensions are on the series drawing, but expect a snug fit that takes the strain off the crimp terminals.
