What the Tin Plating Means for Field Service
Tin-plated contacts are rated for fewer mating cycles than gold — typically 25–50 cycles before the plating wears and fretting corrosion starts. In a telecom cabinet that gets opened quarterly, that's about 12 years of service before the contact resistance drifts. The forked contact geometry is field-repairable: you can re-pin the receptacle on site with the matching crimp terminal and a basic hand tool, as long as the housing hasn't cracked from UV or thermal cycling.
