You order the matching crimp socket terminal separately, terminate it onto your wire, then insert it into the cavity. That makes this a field-repairable connector: if a terminal backs out or corrodes, you re-pin the cavity instead of scrapping the whole harness.
Picking the right terminal and mating half
This housing accepts the HPI-series female crimp socket contacts. No special tool beyond the crimper and a push-pin or pick. The free-hanging mount means you're not soldering this to a board — it's an in-line splice or a wire-to-board connection where the housing latches onto the header. For a wire-to-wire splice, you'd use two of these housings back-to-back with a header in between, though that's less common than the wire-to-board use.
