SC Duplex Multimode Coupler — Panel-Mount Alignment Sleeve
The TE Connectivity 1-5502776-1 is a duplex SC coupler built for multimode fiber. It accepts two SC connectors side-by-side through the duplex clip, aligning the ceramic ferrules end-to-end for a low-loss splice between two patch cables or a cable and a bulkhead. The blue housing is the standard colour identifier for multimode (50/125 or 62.5/125). Mounting is flexible: the flange accepts M3 screws for a fixed panel install, and the snap-in clips let you push it into a rectangular cutout without hardware — useful for patch panels where you want to swap couplers without tools. A dust cap is included to protect the alignment sleeve when the coupler is not mated — keep it on during shipping and storage to keep debris off the ceramic bore.
What This Coupler Does — and What It Doesn't
This is a multimode coupler, meaning the internal alignment sleeve is sized for the larger core diameter of multimode fiber (50 or 62.5 µm). Plugging a single-mode patch cord into it will cause high insertion loss because the single-mode core (9 µm) will not centre properly in the multimode sleeve. Stick to multimode SC patch cables on both sides for the intended performance. The spec sheet does not list insertion loss or return loss values for this part number. For a typical multimode SC coupler with ceramic sleeves, expect insertion loss around 0.2 dB per mated pair, but confirm with the manufacturer's test data if your link budget is tight.
