The right-angle orientation means the module inserts at a 90-degree angle to the PCB, common in compact embedded systems, laptops, and networking equipment where the memory sits flat against the main board. For DDR3 compatibility, a different socket keying and position count is required — this DDR2 socket will not accept a DDR3 module.
