200-Position DDR2 SODIMM Socket for Board-Edge Memory
The 1612618-4 is a 200-position SODIMM socket from TE Connectivity, designed specifically for DDR2 SDRAM modules. It mounts surface mount, right-angle, so the memory card sits parallel to the motherboard — standard for laptops, embedded systems, and compact networking gear where z-height is tight. The connector includes board guides to align the module during insertion and latches on each side to lock it in place — the latches keep the module seated against vibration in a fan-cooled chassis or a mobile device that gets bumped.
Memory Generation Fit — DDR2 Only
This socket is specified for DDR2 SDRAM. The 200-position layout matches the JEDEC standard for DDR2 SODIMMs. DDR3 modules use 204 pins with a different key notch — they will not insert. DDR4 modules use 260 pins and a different edge connector profile, so the 1612618-4 is strictly a DDR2 part.
Contact Finish and Mating Cycles
Contacts are gold flash — the thinnest gold plating grade. In a SODIMM socket that sees a handful of insertion cycles over its life (assembly, maybe one field upgrade), gold flash is adequate. For a high-cycle test socket or a hot-swap memory riser, a thicker gold (15 or 30 µinch) would be specified instead.
