Housing Identity and Series Position
The shell size is 2 (DA, A) — the standard footprint for a 15-position D-sub, meaning it mates with any standard DA-size receptacle housing and fits the common panel cutout for that shell size. The housing is moulded in black glass-filled nylon (polyamide) with a steel shell finished in tin plating, giving it the mechanical rigidity and RFI shielding typical of a full-metal D-sub shell.
What the Shell and Layout Tell You
The shell size 2 (DA, A) is the mechanical key for panel cutouts and mating receptacles — a DA-size receptacle or backshell is required. The unthreaded flange means the housing relies on the mating connector's jack-screws or a separate locking mechanism for retention; it does not have integral threaded inserts. The steel/tin shell provides basic EMI shielding when mated with a compatible metal-shell receptacle, though the shielding effectiveness depends on the full mated assembly including the backshell and cable braid termination.
The AMPLIMITE HDP-20 series uses standard stamped-and-formed male crimp terminals (typically TE part numbers 1-66506-0 or similar for 20-24 AWG wire). The crimp contacts are inserted from the rear of the housing and retained by a locking lance; the free-hanging design means the wire exits straight out the back, suited for cable harnesses where the connector is not panel-mounted. Confirm the wire gauge and contact plating (tin vs. gold) against the application's mating cycle and environmental requirements before ordering the terminals separately.
For volume commitments, confirm the BOM position count (15) and the mating receptacle part number before placing the order.
