Both the pitch between adjacent positions and the row-to-row spacing are 4.14mm (0.163"). That uniform grid simplifies wire routing and cavity identification in the harness — each of the 9 cavities is equally spaced in a 3x3 pattern. The 4.14mm pitch is the standard for the Mini-Universal MATE-N-LOK family, so mating headers and receptacles in the same series share the same cavity layout.
This housing ships without contacts. The 172169-1 accepts both male and female crimp terminals (sold separately) that are inserted into the cavities after crimping to the wire. The contact termination is crimp-style, so the wire gauge and terminal part number must be matched to the application.
