Universal Power 2-Position Plug Housing, 3.96mm Pitch
What the 3.96mm Pitch and 2 Positions Mean for the Build
The 3.96mm pitch is the primary dimensional constraint for the harness designer: it sets the center-to-center spacing of the crimp terminals in the housing and the corresponding footprint on the mating header. At this pitch, the housing accepts wire gauges typical of 5-8 A circuits without crowding the insulation. The 2-position count is the BOM line match — a single pair for a low-circuit-count interconnect such as a power feed, sensor loop, or discrete signal pair. If the application requires more circuits, the Universal Power series offers higher-position housings at the same pitch, keeping the tooling and terminal common across the build. The crimp termination gives a gas-tight connection when the correct tooling is used, and the terminal can be extracted from the housing with a proper removal tool if a circuit needs rework in the field.
Latch Lock and Field-Service Considerations
The latch lock is the feature a field-service tech will notice first: it provides a tactile and audible click when the plug is fully seated on the header. The latch is molded into the PA66 housing and is designed for repeated mating cycles without cracking. For field replacement, the housing can be unmated by depressing the latch tab and pulling the plug straight off the header. The crimp terminals remain in the housing unless intentionally extracted, so a damaged housing can be replaced without re-terminating the wires — the terminals are transferred to a new housing using a terminal removal tool.
