It's a free-hanging (in-line) crimp housing — you terminate the male pin contacts separately, then insert them into the cavities. The latch holder keeps the pair locked together under vibration, which matters in industrial control cabinets or automotive interior harnesses where a loose connector means an intermittent fault. Operating range is -40°C to 100°C, so it's fine for under-hood or outdoor cabinet duty as long as it's not directly in the engine bay.
Contacts are not included — that's the first line of the spec. You order the housing and the crimp terminals as separate line items. The housing accepts male pin contacts, so you need the matching Generation Y crimp pin. If you're filling a BOM, make sure the terminal part number is on a separate line; the housing alone won't make a circuit.
Mating Plug and Contact Compatibility
The mating half is the Generation Y plug header at the same 2.54 mm pitch. The latch holder on the receptacle engages with the corresponding lock feature on the plug, giving a positive tactile click when fully mated.
