What this plug does in the assembly
The 282959-3 is a 3-position plug with female sockets from TE's Buchanan series, terminated by a screw rising cage clamp. It mates with the corresponding Buchanan header to make a wire-to-board connection for power distribution or control circuits.
The green housing colour is a visual identifier in the Buchanan series — it distinguishes this plug from other pitch or position variants in the same family.
Termination and wire preparation
Screw rising cage clamp: the screw pushes a clamp plate down onto the stripped wire, trapping it against the current bar. No crimp tool needed — just a screwdriver set to the torque spec. Retention latches on the non-wire side lock the plug into the header — you should hear it click. This is the standard orientation for daisy-chaining terminal blocks in a panel.
Contact mating finish is tin — sufficient for the moderate mating cycle count of a terminal block application where the plug is installed and left in place for the equipment life.
