Plug Housing for the Grace Inertia GIC Series
The TE Connectivity 3-1971905-3 is a 6-position, dual-row plug housing from the Grace Inertia GIC series. The latch lock fastening provides a positive mechanical retention — a splice that relies on friction alone won't hold the road buzz, so this lock is the difference between a reliable harness and a field return. The housing is free-hanging (in-line), accepts female socket contacts via crimp termination, and is rated for an operating temperature range of -30°C to 105°C. Typical applications include wire-to-wire interconnects in automotive body harnesses, industrial control panels, and appliance wiring where a vibration-resistant, keyed connection is required.
What Mates and What Terminals Go In
This plug housing mates with the corresponding Grace Inertia GIC header (male pin header, typically a right-angle or vertical through-hole version from the same series). The latch lock on the plug engages the header's locking ramp for a secure mate. Contacts are not included with this housing — you must order the female crimp socket terminals separately. The TE part numbers for the terminals vary by wire gauge; the Grace Inertia GIC terminal family covers 20–24 AWG. The crimp termination requires a standard hand or automatic crimp tool; the terminal must be fully seated in the cavity until the retention lance locks, and the secondary lock (TPA) on the housing should be engaged to confirm the terminal is home. Without the correct terminal, the circuit is open — the housing alone is just a shell.
