0.40mm Pitch, 0.8mm Stack — Mezzanine Plug for Tight Board Gaps
The TE Connectivity 3-2396002-4 is a 34-position plug with outer shroud contacts, part of the 2396002 series of fine-pitch board-to-board mezzanine connectors. Its defining dimensions are the 0.016" (0.40mm) pitch and the 0.8mm mated stacking height — the gap between parallel PCBs when mated with the matching receptacle. At this pitch, the board footprint demands HDI routing (microvias, fine traces) to escape the inner rows; the 0.8mm stack height limits component height on both boards to well under 0.6mm.
34 Circuits at 0.40mm Pitch — Footprint and Routing
The 0.025" (0.63mm) height above board keeps the plug profile low, but the real constraint is escape routing: each inner-row signal needs a via or a trace necked down to fit between pads. This is a connector for dense, space-constrained mezzanine links — tablet mainboards, camera modules, or stacked compute modules — where the board-to-board gap is fixed at 0.8mm and every tenth of a millimetre of z-height matters.
