The gold mating finish (15.0 µinch) over copper alloy contacts supports repeated connect cycles — in a field-service application cycled quarterly, that's well over a century of service life at the contact interface. The post finish is tin (150.0 µinch), which solders cleanly. Single-wall shrouding guides the mating receptacle on one side, but leaves the other three sides of the pin tips exposed — this matters for board layout and handling, especially if the header sits near other components.
