The friction lock is a simple ramp on the header that engages a matching ramp on the receptacle housing. It provides enough retention to keep the pair mated through handling and moderate vibration, but it is not a positive latch — if the application sees high shock or continuous vibration, a header with a full locking ramp or a secondary retention feature would be a better choice. The single-wall shrouding protects the mating side from accidental shorting against adjacent components, but it does not fully enclose the pins — the back side of the header is open. This is typical for MTA-100 headers and is acceptable for most general-purpose applications.
