What this 6.35 mm pitch header does that a 2.54 mm one cannot
The 0.250" (6.35 mm) pitch is the widest in the series — it gives each contact more room to carry current without overheating the housing, and it matches the footprint of the Universal MATE-N-LOK receptacle family.
Pitch, positions, and plating — the BOM-fit check
At 6.35 mm pitch, this header takes up more board space than the 2.50 mm pitch of the 1-2232960-3 or the 2.85 mm pitch of the 1394090-1 — that is the trade-off for higher current capacity per circuit. The 4 positions are loaded all, so the BOM count is exactly 4.
Mounting and termination — through-hole solder
The header mounts through hole with solder termination. The contact length — post is 0.215" (5.46 mm), which gives enough tail for a standard 1.6 mm PCB with a wave-solder joint.
