Board-fit and footprint decisions
The 4-175643-2: The 4-wall shroud protects the male pins during mating and prevents bent pins in a production environment where the connector is plugged and unplugged repeatedly. Surface-mount termination suits automated pick-and-place assembly. The board guide helps align the header during reflow, reducing tombstoning risk on a fine-pitch part.
Where the 0.5A rating sets the boundary
At 0.5A per contact, the temperature rise stays within the housing material limit of the polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) insulator. PPS handles the 105°C upper operating limit without creep or deformation, but the current ceiling is the real constraint — this header is for logic-level signals, not for driving relays or LEDs directly. The tin-on-tin contact finish (mating and post) is rated for a moderate number of mating cycles — adequate for board-to-board interconnects in equipment that sees occasional service, not for daily field disconnect.
