Termination flexibility: press-fit and solder
In a press-fit backplane, the compliant pin deforms into the plated through-hole without solder — this eliminates the reflow step and allows rework. For conventional through-hole soldering, the 0.130" (3.30 mm) post length provides enough stand-off for wave solder or hand-solder operations. The dual termination option means the same BOM line works across different assembly processes — a single header part number for both solder and press-fit lines reduces inventory complexity.
