Gold mating surface, tin post — what it means for assembly
The 5-146256-4: The gold side handles the mating interface — good for repeated connect/disconnect in test or field-service positions. The tin post solders cleanly into a plated through-hole without mixing metallurgies. Compared to a shrouded header like the 1-1871673-2 (4-position, 2.50 mm pitch, detent lock), this unshrouded breakaway gives you board-design flexibility — you can snap off individual positions if the BOM calls for fewer than 8, but you lose the polarisation and retention a shroud provides.
